Val and Ian Anderson

Scene Different

Paintings in contrasting styles by Val and Ian Anderson
Val loves painting any subject but her real interest lies in nature, and the way sunlight plays on trees and foliage creating beautiful shadows.  It is the light and dark in her pictures that fascinates her, and the difference the changing seasons and sunlight make to the colours. The challenge to recreate nature her way is irresistible.

Ian has developed his own style which consists of bold shapes and angles and bright contrasting colours, embracing realism, a touch of fantasy and always artistic licence, and contrasts greatly with Val's more traditional watercolours.

North Tyneside Art Studio

Heads of Grey Matter
Retrospective & New Works

Heads of Grey Matter is a collection of 5 foot by 6 foot paintings produced by artists working at North Tyneside Art Studio (NTAS) alongside professional artist Robert Laycock in 1997 and was first exhibited to great acclaim in The Bridge exhibition space in Tynemouth Metro Station. This retrospective exhibition provides the opportunity for the community to once again view 10 of the original 12 works, mostly self portraits executed in shades of grey, alongside new pieces created by current Studio members.
Established in 1991, NTAS is a working art studio providing the opportunity for adults experiencing mental health problems to work alongside professional artists, building confidence and self esteem through exploring and developing their creative skills.
